Revitalize Retail Climate

You only have to walk thru Memorial Mall or Taylor Heights and downtown Sheboygan to realize that we have lost much in the way of our retail assets. In many cases the few stores that still exist in these areas are struggling. The city needs a definite plan to try and restore the retail vitality to these depressed areas.

To achieve this goal I would assemble an advisory commission of experienced business men to investigate ways and means to revitalize our retail areas. Not only do we lose part of our tax base when stores close but as stores and businesses disappear so do the jobs they had provided.

It would be the function of the special advisory commission to thoroughly study the retail climate and come up with a comprehensive plan to prevent any further decline and also to encourage new business to locate here. It would also be a further function of this commission to alert the administration of this city to any business that may be contemplating leaving. Armed with this information the appropriate city authorities could offer incentives to the business in question in an attempt to prevent their departure.
